High-carbon iron rings. 7075-T6 aluminium bells. Floating bobbin construction engineered for track use and hard road driving.
Product Line 01 — ECR Racing
A direct upgrade over your OEM disc. The floating design allows the iron ring to expand and contract independently of the aluminium bell — eliminating the thermal distortion that causes judder, warping and uneven wear on solid discs.
Engineering Detail
The floating disc design was developed for motorsport and has been adopted across the performance car market for good reason. Here's what it means in practice.
01 — Bell
We specify 7075-T6 rather than the common 6061-T6. It has higher tensile strength and better fatigue resistance under repeated thermal cycling — the same alloy grade used in aerospace and motorsport components, not consumer cycling products.
02 — Ring
Our disc rings are cast in high-carbon grey iron for superior fade resistance, consistent friction characteristics and long service life. The same specification used in OEM sport brake packages on the performance cars we support.
03 — Bobbins
The bobbin assembly allows the iron ring to float independently of the bell — 0.1–0.3mm radial clearance, 0.3–0.5mm axial float. This eliminates thermal distortion: the ring expands freely under heat without transferring stress to the bell or producing judder.
04 — Weight
Replacing the iron centre with a 7075-T6 bell reduces unsprung rotational mass by up to 30% over a solid cast iron disc. Less unsprung weight means better ride quality, faster suspension response and reduced steering feel corruption.
05 — Finish
All ECR Racing discs are drilled and slotted. The slots clear gas and debris from the pad face for consistent bite; the drilling reduces overall disc mass and improves heat dissipation. All holes are chamfered to prevent pad cracking.
06 — Testing
Every disc specification is tested at Snetterton and the Nürburgring before release. We log temperatures, measure wear rates and check bedding behaviour under sustained race conditions — not just road use.
Vehicle Fitment
Direct-fit applications. No adapters, no drilling, no modifications required.
